In 1946 the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">theory that this breed was merely a variety of the Serbian scent<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">hound was refuted ; it was granted breed status and a first standard<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">was drawn up. This breed was shown to cynological circles at the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Belgrade International Dog Show on June 7th and 8th 1950. The<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">F.C.I. recognised the breed and published the standard for the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tricoloured Yugoslav scent hound on July 25th 1961.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong> : Medium sized dog of robust<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">constitution. Full of character, it is lively and energetic.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>IMPORT ANT PROPORTIONS<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Length of body measured from point of shoulder to point of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">buttock is 10 % greater than height at withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Length of head corresponds to 45 % of the height at withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR\/TEMPERAMENT<\/strong>: Devoted, kind, lively<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">temperament ; dependable, showing remarkable tenacity. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>HEAD<\/strong> : Dolichocephalic ( narrow skull base coupled with great<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">length ), slim ; top lines of skull and foreface are divergent.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull: Seen from the front and in profile slightly rounded,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pronounced frontal furrow. Occipital crest not very developed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Distance between base of ears is equivalent to that between stop and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">occipital crest. Superciliary ridges almost imperceptible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop: Almost imperceptible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose : Well-developed, always black.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle : Cuneiform ; shorter than skull, ideal relationship between<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">length of muzzle and that of skull is 8 .5 to 10. It tapers progressively<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">from stop to nose. The foreface is straight. The lateral lines of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">muzzle are convergent.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips : Thin, close-fitting, mediumly developed, quite short and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">rounded at the end of the muzzle. The edge of the lips should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">black. Top lip slightly over1aps lower lip ; corner of lips<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">is firm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws\/Teeth : Jaws are strong with regular complete scissor bite.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pincer bite allowed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cheeks : Flat.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes : Almond-shaped, almost oval, medium size. Pigment at edges<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of lids is dark (preferably black ). The colour of the iris is as dark as<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">possible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ears : Set high, medium length, pendulous, close to cheeks, medium<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">size, the tip of the ear is slightly oval in shape. Ears are thinner than<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">thick.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK<\/strong> : Strong, in length approximately the same as the head. Top<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">line is slightly arched. The neck is at an angle of 45 to 50 degrees to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the horizontal plane.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY<\/strong>: Rectangular. Length is 10 % more than height at withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Topline : Straight.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Withers : Only slightly pronounced. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Back : Well-muscled, straight, strong, long.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loins : Well-muscled, length about the same as that of the croup.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Croup: Slightly sloping ( 20 -25% in relation to horizontal ), wellmuscled, broad.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chest : Strong, height 50 % of height at withers, girth 20 % greater<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">than height at withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Underline and belly : Oval point of sternum standing slightly proud.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Belly has slight tuck up.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong>: Extends line of croup. Strong at base, tapering progressively<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">towards tip which reaches level of hock. Carried curving up slightly,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">never lifted above line of back. Covered in abundant hair.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LIMBS<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance : Strong, straight, well-muscled, parallel.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Scapula ( shoulder blade ) : Approximately same length as upper<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">arm, muscled, solid, well attached to thoracic wall. Forms an angle<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of 45- 50 degrees in relation to horizontal.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper arm : Close to body, strong, muscled, approximately same<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">length as scapula. Forms an angle of 45-50 degrees in relation to the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">horizontal.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elbow : Close to body , solid, height from ground to elbow 50 % of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">height at withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fore arm : Straight, strong, well-muscled.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Carpus : Solid .<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metacarpus (Pastems) : Strong, slightly sloping ( up to 15 degrees<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">from vertical ).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Front foot : Cat foot, with solid tight toes. Nails are strong,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">preferably black. Dark pads, well-developed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance : Strong, straight, well-muscled, parallel.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thighs : Strong, well-muscled, straight.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stifle : Solid, parallel with median line of body .Angle of stifle about<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">120 degrees.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lower thigh : Well-muscled, length approximately that of the thigh. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hock : Strong, angle of hock between 135 and 140 degrees.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metatarsus (Rear Pastern) : Strong, almost vertical.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hind foot : A little longer than front foot; solid tight toes ; black<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">strong nails; pads resistant and elastic, dark in colour .<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong> : Long steps, energetic and stretching reach.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Preferred pace: free trot, regular, harmonious and even.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SKIN<\/strong> : Elastic, well-pigmented : taut over the body.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COAT<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HAIR : Short, abundant, gleaming, slightly thick, lying well all over<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">all the body ; undercoat is quite well-developed. Hair is slightly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">longer over the back of the thighs and the underside of the tail.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COLOUR : The base coat is deep red or foxey red with a black<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mantle or saddle. The black can go up as far as the head where it<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">forms black marks on the temples. The white star on the head and the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">blaze which stretches down the muzzle form a complete or partial<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">collar under and around the neck. A white mark is allowed on the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">chest and may extend as far as the tip of the breast-bone and reach<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the belly and inside of the legs .The end of the tail can be white.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">White must not make up more than one third of the total body<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">surface.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SIZE<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height at withers : Males: 45 -55 cm, ideal height 51 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Females : 44 -54 cm, ideal height 49 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong> : Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">considered as a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">upon the health and welfare of the dog. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>DISQUALIFYING FAULTS<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy dogs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">abnormalities shall be disqualified.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Over or under shot.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Missing a tooth. although the lack of two premolar 1 ( 2PM<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 ) is tolerated.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 China eye.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Body too long .<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Tail curled. carried high or curving over back.
