ORIGIN<\/strong> : France.<\/span>

UTILIZATION<\/strong> : Scenthound.<\/span>
FCI CLASSIFICATION<\/strong> : Group 6 Scenthounds and <\/span>related breeds.<\/span>
Section 1.2 Medium sized <\/span>hounds<\/span>
With working trial.<\/span>
GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong> : Hunting dog for small game (<\/span>
driving game to waiting guns ), very distinguished, very French<\/span>
looking and showing top quality in all details of its structure.<\/span>
HEAD<\/strong> : Must be very typical, lean and finely sculptured ; rather<\/span>
long altogether.<\/span>
CRANIAL REGION :<\/span>
Skull : Wide at the top between the leathers, occipital protuberance<\/span>
rounded. The forehead is flat, with a median furrow not too much<\/span>
marked.<\/span>
Stop : Marked, without exaggeration.<\/span>
FACIAL REGION :<\/span>
Nose : Well developed and very black. Nostrils well open.<\/span>
Muzzle : Of good length, neither square nor pointed; the nasal<\/span>
bridge, at first straight, ends very slightly arched.<\/span>
Lips : The upper lip covers the lower without being drooping or<\/span>
thick. Mucous membranes black. <\/span>
Eyes : Normally developed, dark in appearance, well sheltered under<\/span>
the superciliary arches. Expression intelligent and sweet.<\/span>
Leahters : Leather thin, well curled inwards, ending rather in a point,<\/span>
reaching the end of the muzzle. Set on narrow, never above the line<\/span>
of the eye.<\/span><\/p>\n

NECK<\/strong> : Fairly long, light, showing a little dewlap of tense and lean<\/span>
appearance.<\/span>
BODY<\/span><\/strong>
Back : Withers well prominent, back broad and straight.<\/span>
Loins : Wide, very muscular, well coupled, not excessive in length.<\/span>
Croup : Slightly slanting; haunches placed well apart and slightly<\/span>
prominent.<\/span>
Chest : Average width, but deep.<\/span>
Ribs : Corresponding to the chest described above, rather long<\/span>
without being flat.<\/span>
Flanks : Slightly tucked up, but full.<\/span>
TAIL<\/strong> : Well attached, fairly strong at the root, thinning at the tip, of<\/span>
average length. Without any longer and coarser, slightly offstanding<\/span>
hairs ( like ears of grain ). Carried slightly curved.<\/span>
LIMBS<\/span><\/strong>
FOREQUARTERS : Forelegs fairly long, lean but not too fine;<\/span>
straight and parallel; tendons well attached.<\/span>
Shoulders : Constructed for gallop, long, well sloping, well muscled<\/span>
without being heavy.<\/span>
Feet : Typical for a French hound, with rather elongated and fine but<\/span>
tight toes; pads hard and tough.<\/span>
HINDQUARTERS<\/span>
Thighs : Well descending; muscles very apparent and clean; of<\/span>
moderately strong development.<\/span>
Hocks : Strong and well let down, normally angulated. <\/span>
GAIT\/MOVEMENT<\/strong> : Lively and gay; gallop light and tireless.<\/span>
SKIN<\/strong> : Fine and supple, marbled with numerous black spots.<\/span>
COAT<\/span><\/strong>
HAIR : Smooth, thin, close lying and shining ; without bare patches.<\/span>
COLOUR : Very white, with roundish orange spots, never extended<\/span>
to a mantle. These spots usually superimpose other black pigmented<\/span>
spots of the skin. Orange ticking on the ears is highly characteristic<\/span>
of the breed.<\/span>
Height :For dogs between 55 and 58 cm( 22 to 23,5 inches)<\/span>
For bitches between 53 and 56 cm( 21,5 to 22,5 inches)<\/span>
FAULTS<\/strong> : Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span>
considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be<\/span>
regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span>
upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/span>
ELIMINATING FAULTS<\/strong> :<\/span>
\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy.<\/span>
\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities<\/span>
shall be disqualified.<\/span>
\u2022 Lack of type.<\/span>
\u2022 Eyes or nose light; excessive lack of pigment.<\/span>
\u2022 Tail furnished with some longer and coarser, slightly offstanding<\/span>
hairs ( like ears of grain).<\/span>
\u2022 Coat harsh and thick.<\/span>
\u2022 Orange mantle.<\/span>
\u2022 Orange spots too bright, tending to mahogany, greyish or mingled<\/span>
with black hairs. Distinct orange spots but too pale, and even the<\/span>
absence of spots are not sought after, but are not considered as a<\/span>
eliminatory fault. <\/span>
\u2022 Excess or lack of height at withers. An exeption may be made for<\/span>
males which, excelling in their quality and therefore capable of<\/span>
being used at stud, reach the maximum height of 60 cm<\/span>
(24 inches).<\/span>
\u2022 Any fault affecting the utilization of the dog, as rickets, lack of a<\/span>
correct stance, insufficient reach of the movement.<\/span>
N.B.:<\/span><\/strong>
\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully<\/span>
descended into the scrotum.<\/span>
\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed<\/span>
typical conformation should be used for breeding.<\/span><\/p>\n
