His moderately compact and well furred body, erect ears<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and brush tail suggest his Northern heritage. His characteristic gait is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">smooth and seemingly effortless. He performs his original function<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">in harness most capably, carrying a light load at a moderate speed<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">over great distances. His body proportions and form reflect this<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">basic balance of power, speed and endurance. The males of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Siberian Husky breed are masculine but never coarse; the bitches are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">feminine but without weakness of structure. In proper condition,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with muscle firm and well developed, the Siberian Husky does not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">carry excess weight.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; In profile, the length of the body from the point of the shoulder to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the rear point of the croup is slightly longer than the height of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">body from the ground to the top of the withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; The distance from the tip of the nose to the stop is equal to the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">distance from the stop to the occiput.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR \/ TEMPERAMENT<\/strong> : The characteristic<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">temperament of the Siberian Husky is friendly and gentle, but also<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">alert and outgoing. He does not display the possessive qualities of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the guard dog, nor is he overly suspicious of strangers or aggressive<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with other dogs. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some measure of reserve and dignity may be expected in the mature<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dog. His intelligence, tractability, and eager disposition make him an<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">agreeable companion and willing worker.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HEAD<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull : Of medium size and in proportion to the body; sligthly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">rounded on top and tapering from the widest point to the eyes.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop : Well defined.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose : Black in gray, tan or black dogs; liver in copper dogs; may be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">flesh-coloured in pure white dogs. The pink-streaked \u00ab snow nose \u00bb<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">is acceptable.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle : Of medium length and of medium width, tapering gradually<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to the nose, with the tip neither pointed nor square. The bridge of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">nose is straight from the stop to the tip.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips : Well pigmented and close fitting.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws\/Teeth : Closing in a scissor bite.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes : Almond shaped, moderately spaced and set a trifle obliquely.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes may be brown or blue in colour; one of each or particoloured<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">are acceptable.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Expression : Keen, but friendly, interested and even mischievous.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ears : Of medium size, triangular in shape, close fitting and set high<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">on the head. They are thick, well furred, slightly arched at the back,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and strongly erect, with slightly rounded tips pointing straight up.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK<\/strong> : Medium in length, arched and carried proudly erect when<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dog is standing. When moving at a trot, the neck is extended so that<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the head is carried slightly forward.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Back : Straight and strong, with a level topline from withers to croup.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Of medium length, neither cobby nor slack from excessive length.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loin : Taut and lean, narrower than the rib cage, and with a slight<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tuck-up. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Croup : Slopes away from the spine at an angle, but never so steeply<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">as to restrict the rearward thrust of the hind legs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chest : Deep and strong, but not too broad, with the deepest point<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">being just behind and level with the elbows. The ribs are well sprung<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">from the spine but flattened on the sides to allow for freedom of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">action.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong> : The well furred tail of fox-brush shape is set on just below<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the level of the topline, and is usually carried over the back in a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">graceful sickle curve when the dog is at attention. When carried up,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the tail does not curl to either side of the body, nor does it snap flat<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">against the back. A trailing tail is normal for the dog when in repose.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hair on the tail is of medium length and approximately the same<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">length on top, sides and bottom, giving the appearance of a round<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">brush.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LIMBS<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS : When standing and viewed from the front, the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">legs are moderately spaced, parallel and straight. Bone is substantial<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">but never heavy. Length of the leg from the elbow to ground is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">slightly more than the distance from the elbow to the top of withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dewclaws on forelegs may be removed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shoulders and arm : The shoulder blade is well laid back. The upper<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">arm angles slightly backward from point of shoulder to elbow, and is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">never perpendicular to the ground. The muscles and ligaments<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">holding the shoulder to the rib cage are firm and well developed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elbows : Close to the body and turned neither in nor out.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pastern joint : Strong, but flexible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pasterns : Viewed from the side, pasterns are slightly slanted.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS : When standing and viewed from the rear, the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">hind legs are moderately spaced and parallel. Dewclaws, if any, are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to be removed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper thigh : Well muscled and powerful.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stifle : Well bent.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hock joint : Well defined and set low to ground. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FEET : Oval in shape but not long. The paws are medium in size,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">compact and well furred between the toes and pads. The pads are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tough and thickly cushioned. The paws neither turn in nor out when<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the dog is in natural stance.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong> : The Siberian Husky\u2019s characteristic gait is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">smooth and seemingly effortless. He is quick and light on his feet,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and when in the show ring should be gaited on a loose lead at a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">moderately fast trot, exhibiting good reach in the forequarters and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">good drive in the hindquarters. When viewed from the front to rear<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">while moving at a walk the Siberian Husky does not single-track, but<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">as the speed increases the legs gradually angle inward until the pads<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">are falling on a line directly under the longitudinal center of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">body. As the pad marks converge, the forelegs and hind legs are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">carried straightforward, with neither elbows nor stifles turned in or<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">out. Each\u2019hind leg moves in the path of the foreleg on the same side.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">While the dog is gaiting, the topline remains firm and level.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COAT<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HAIR : The coat of the Siberian Husky is double and medium in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">length, giving a well furred appearance, but is never so long as to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">obscure the cleancut outline of the dog. The undercoat is soft and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dense and of sufficient length to support the outer coat. The guard<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">hairs of the outer coat are straight and somewhat smooth lying, never<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">harsh nor standing straight off from the body. It should be noted that<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the absence of the undercoat during the shedding season is normal.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Trimming of whiskers and fur between the toes and around the feet<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to present a neater appearance is permissible. Trimming the fur on<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">any other part of the dog is not to be condoned and should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">severely penalized.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COLOUR : All colours from black to pure white are allowed. A<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">variety of markings on the head is common, including many striking<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">patterns not found in other breeds. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SIZE AND WEIGHT<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height at withers : Dogs: 21 to 23, 5 inches (53,5 &#8211; 60 cm).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Females : 20 to 22 inches (50,5 &#8211; 56 cm).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Weight : Dogs : 45 to 60 pounds (20,5 &#8211; 28 kg).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Females : 35 to 50 pounds (15,5 &#8211; 23 kg).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Weight is in proportion to height. The measurements mentioned<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">above represent the extreme height and weight limits with no<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">preference given to either extreme. Any appearance of excessive<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">bone or weight should be penalized.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SUMMARY<\/strong> : The most important breed characteristics of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Siberian Husky are medium size, moderate bone, well balanced<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">proportions, ease and freedom of movement, proper coat, pleasing<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">head and ears, correct tail, and good disposition. Any appearance of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">excessive bone or weight, constricted or clumsy gait, or long, rough<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">coat should be penalized. The Siberian Husky never appears so<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">heavy or coarse as to suggest a freighting animal; nor is he so light<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and fragile as to suggest a sprint-racing animal. In both sexes the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Siberian Husky gives the appearance of being capable of great<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">endurance. In addition to the faults already noted, the obvious<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">structural faults common to all breeds are as undesirable in the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Siberian Husky as in any other breed, even though they are not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">specifically mentioned herein.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong> : Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Skull : Head clumsy or heavy; head too finely chiseled.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Stop : Insufficient.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Muzzle : Either too snipy or too coarse; too short or too long.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Jaws\/Teeth : Any bite other than scissor bite.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Eyes : Set too obliquely; set too close together.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Ears : Too large in proportion to the head; too wide set; not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">strongly erect.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Neck : Too short and thick; too long. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Back : Weak or slack back; roached back; sloping topline.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Chest : Too broad; \u00ab barrel ribs \u00bb; ribs too flat or weak.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Tail : A snapped or tightly curled tail; highly plumed tail; tail set<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">too low or too high.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Shoulders : Straight shoulders; loose shoulders.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Forequarters : Weak pasterns; too heavy bone; too narrow or too<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">wide in the front; out at the elbows.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Hindquarters : Straight stifles, cow-hocks, too narrow or too wide<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">in the rear.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Feet : Soft or splayed toes; paws too large and clumsy; paws too<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">small and delicate; toeing in or out.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Gait\/Movement : Short, prancing or choppy gait, lumbering or<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">rolling gait; crossing or crabbing.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Hair : Long, rough, or shaggy coat; texture too harsh or too silky;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">trimming of the coat, except as permitted above.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>DISQUALIFYING FAULTS<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy dogs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">shall be disqualified.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Dogs over 23,5 inches (60 cm) and bitches over 22 inches (56<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">cm).<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">N.B.:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">descended into the scrotum.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed typical<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">conformation should be used for breeding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wpview-selection-after\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;
