The Alpine Dachsbracke is used as a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tracking hound for wounded deer and as scenthound for hare and fox.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FCI-CLASSIFICATION<\/strong> : Group 6 Scenthounds and related<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">breeds.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Section 2 Leash (scent) hounds.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">With working trial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY<\/strong> : Already in ancient times, a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">hunting\/shooting dog was used which bore a remarkable resemblance<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">in appearance to the Alpine Dachsbracke. Crown Prince Rudolf of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Habsburg in 1881 and 1885 made his gamekeepers from Mursteg<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and Ischl include Alpine Dachsbracken on his hunting trips to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Turkey and to Egypt. In 1932 the \u201cAlpine- ErzgebirgsDachsbracke\u201d was recognized by the top canine organisations in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Austria as the third Scenthound breed. In 1975 the name was altered<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to \u201cAlpenl\u00e4ndische Dachsbracke\u201d and the F.C.I. declared Austria as<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the country of origin. In 1991 the Alpenl\u00e4ndische Dachsbracke was<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">included in Section 2 of Scenthounds in the FCI nomenclature.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong> : A short legged, sturdy hunting dog<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with a robust, strong boned body structure, dense coat, firm muscles.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Relation of height at shoulder to length of body = 2 : 3.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Relation of facial region to cranial region = 9 : 10. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR \/ TEMPERAMENT<\/strong> : Expression intelligent and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">friendly. Fearless personality.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HEAD<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull : Lightly arched. Well defined furrow in fore-head, lightly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">emphasized occiput.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop : Pronounced.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose : Black.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle : Strong.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips : Close fitting with black pigment, moderately rounded curve of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">lips.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws\/Teeth : Strong complete teeth with scissor or pincer bite. A<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">complete set with 42 teeth is sought after; the absence of totally two<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">PM1 or PM2 (premolar 1 or 2) is tolerated; the M3 (molar 3) are not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">taken into account.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eye : With dark brown iris. Depth of chest<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">should be about half the height at shoulder.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Belly : Moderately tucked up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong> : Set on high, thick at root. Longer hair on underside (brush<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tail); reaching barely to ground, carried slightly downward. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LIMBS<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance : Front legs are straight and strong; they appear<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">short in relation to the body.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shoulders : Shoulder blade close fitting, long, sloping and strongly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">muscled.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance : Muscular, strong and well angulated. Seen<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">from the rear, the axis of the legs is straight.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FEET : Front and hind feet strong, round, toes tight against each<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">other. Strong pads and black nails.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong> : Movement is ground covering, not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tripping. Preferred gait : Trot.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SKIN<\/strong> : Elastic and strong, without wrinkles.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COAT<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HAIR : The double coat consists of very thick top coat and a dense<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">undercoat, which covers the whole body and is close fitting.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COLOUR : The ideal colour is dark deer red with or without black<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">hairs lightly interspersed. Also black with clearly defined red-brown<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">markings on head (Vier\u00e4ugl), chest, legs, feet and underside of tail.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">White star on chest permitted.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SIZE<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height at withers : 34-42 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ideal height for dogs : 37-38 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ideal height for bitches : 36-37 cm. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong> : Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Weak bone.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Lack of muscle.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Too pointed, too short or too long in muzzle.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Too light eye, lids not close fitting.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Short or pointed leathers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Loose shoulders.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Wrong stance of front or hind legs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Coat too thin or too short.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Slight departure from correct colour.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>DISQUALIFYING FAULTS<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">abnormalities shall be disqualified.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any deviation which will hinder ability to hunt.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Lack of more than two premolars 1 or 2 (the M3 are not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">taken into account).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Height at withers less than 34 cm and more than 42 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Weakness in temperament.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>N.B.<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">fully descended into the scrotum.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">typical conformation should be used for breeding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wpview-selection-after\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;
