DATE OF PUBLICATION OF THE OFFICIAL VALID<\/span><\/strong>
STANDARD<\/strong> : 10.10.1995.<\/span>
UTILIZATION<\/strong> : A robust, weather resistant working dog used by<\/span>
the mountain huntsman. The Alpine Dachsbracke is used as a<\/span>
tracking hound for wounded deer and as scenthound for hare and fox.<\/span>
FCI-CLASSIFICATION<\/strong> : Group 6 Scenthounds and related<\/span>
breeds.<\/span>
Section 2 Leash (scent) hounds.<\/span>

BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY<\/strong> : Already in ancient times, a<\/span>
hunting\/shooting dog was used which bore a remarkable resemblance<\/span>
in appearance to the Alpine Dachsbracke. Crown Prince Rudolf of<\/span>
Habsburg in 1881 and 1885 made his gamekeepers from Mursteg<\/span>
and Ischl include Alpine Dachsbracken on his hunting trips to<\/span>
Turkey and to Egypt. In 1932 the \u201cAlpine- ErzgebirgsDachsbracke\u201d was recognized by the top canine organisations in<\/span>
Austria as the third Scenthound breed. In 1975 the name was altered<\/span>
to \u201cAlpenl\u00e4ndische Dachsbracke\u201d and the F.C.I. declared Austria as<\/span>
the country of origin. In 1991 the Alpenl\u00e4ndische Dachsbracke was<\/span>
included in Section 2 of Scenthounds in the FCI nomenclature.<\/span>
GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong> : A short legged, sturdy hunting dog<\/span>
with a robust, strong boned body structure, dense coat, firm muscles.<\/span>
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS<\/strong> :<\/span>
\u2022 Relation of height at shoulder to length of body = 2 : 3.<\/span>
\u2022 Relation of facial region to cranial region = 9 : 10. <\/span>
BEHAVIOUR \/ TEMPERAMENT<\/strong> : Expression intelligent and<\/span>
friendly. Fearless personality.<\/span>
HEAD<\/span><\/strong>
CRANIAL REGION :<\/span>
Skull : Lightly arched. Well defined furrow in fore-head, lightly<\/span>
emphasized occiput.<\/span>
Stop : Pronounced.<\/span>
FACIAL REGION :<\/span>
Nose : Black.<\/span>
Muzzle : Strong.<\/span>
Lips : Close fitting with black pigment, moderately rounded curve of<\/span>
lips.<\/span>
Jaws\/Teeth : Strong complete teeth with scissor or pincer bite. A<\/span>
complete set with 42 teeth is sought after; the absence of totally two<\/span>
PM1 or PM2 (premolar 1 or 2) is tolerated; the M3 (molar 3) are not<\/span>
taken into account.<\/span>
Eye : With dark brown iris. Eyelids close fitting to eyeballs with<\/span>
black pigment.<\/span>
Leathers : Set on high without folds, hanging broad and smooth,<\/span>
medium length (should reach to the canines), well rounded at tips.<\/span>
NECK<\/strong> : Muscular, not too long.<\/span>
BODY<\/strong> : Trunk strong and well muscled, elongated.<\/span>
Withers : Moderately emphasized.<\/span>
Back : Straight.<\/span>
Loins : Short and broad.<\/span>
Croup : Barely sloping.<\/span>
Chest : Deep and broad with pronounced forechest. Depth of chest<\/span>
should be about half the height at shoulder.<\/span>
Belly : Moderately tucked up.<\/span><\/p>\n

TAIL<\/strong> : Set on high, thick at root. Longer hair on underside (brush<\/span>
tail); reaching barely to ground, carried slightly downward. <\/span><\/p>\n

LIMBS<\/span><\/strong>
FOREQUARTERS :<\/span>
General appearance : Front legs are straight and strong; they appear<\/span>
short in relation to the body.<\/span>
Shoulders : Shoulder blade close fitting, long, sloping and strongly<\/span>
muscled.<\/span>
HINDQUARTERS :<\/span>
General appearance : Muscular, strong and well angulated. Seen<\/span>
from the rear, the axis of the legs is straight.<\/span>
FEET : Front and hind feet strong, round, toes tight against each<\/span>
other. Strong pads and black nails.<\/span>
GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong> : Movement is ground covering, not<\/span>
tripping. Preferred gait : Trot.<\/span>
SKIN<\/strong> : Elastic and strong, without wrinkles.<\/span>
COAT<\/span><\/strong>
HAIR : The double coat consists of very thick top coat and a dense<\/span>
undercoat, which covers the whole body and is close fitting.<\/span>
COLOUR : The ideal colour is dark deer red with or without black<\/span>
hairs lightly interspersed. Also black with clearly defined red-brown<\/span>
markings on head (Vier\u00e4ugl), chest, legs, feet and underside of tail.<\/span>
White star on chest permitted.<\/span>
SIZE<\/strong> :<\/span>
Height at withers : 34-42 cm.<\/span>
Ideal height for dogs : 37-38 cm.<\/span>
Ideal height for bitches : 36-37 cm. <\/span><\/p>\n

FAULTS<\/strong> : Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span>
considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be<\/span>
regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span>
upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/span>
\u2022 Weak bone.<\/span>
\u2022 Lack of muscle.<\/span>
\u2022 Too pointed, too short or too long in muzzle.<\/span>
\u2022 Too light eye, lids not close fitting.<\/span>
\u2022 Short or pointed leathers.<\/span>
\u2022 Loose shoulders.<\/span>
\u2022 Wrong stance of front or hind legs.<\/span>
\u2022 Coat too thin or too short.<\/span>
\u2022 Slight departure from correct colour.<\/span>
DISQUALIFYING FAULTS<\/strong> :<\/span>
\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy.<\/span>
\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural<\/span>
abnormalities shall be disqualified.<\/span>
\u2022 Any deviation which will hinder ability to hunt.<\/span>
\u2022 Lack of more than two premolars 1 or 2 (the M3 are not<\/span>
taken into account).<\/span>
\u2022 Height at withers less than 34 cm and more than 42 cm.<\/span>
\u2022 Weakness in temperament.<\/span>
N.B.<\/strong>:<\/span>
\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles<\/span>
fully descended into the scrotum.<\/span>
\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed<\/span>
typical conformation should be used for breeding.<\/span><\/p>\n
