The same year the breed standard was<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">presented at the Hunter\u2019s Club in the City of Buenos Aires. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Its strength, tenacity, sense of smell and bravery make it the best in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the pack of dogs to hunt wild boars, peccaries, pumas and other<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">predators of agriculture and livestock that inhabit the vast and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">diverse regions of Argentina. This is the traditional activity for which<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Antonio Nores created this breed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 1964 it was recognized as a breed by the FCA (Federaci\u00f3n<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cinologica Argentina) and the Sociedad Rural Argentina, which<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">opened their studbook to initiate registry.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Just in 1973 the breed was accepted by the FCI. This was possible<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">thanks to the great passion and unique work and effort of Dr. Agust\u00edn<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nores Mart\u00ednez, brother of the founder of the breed, who achieved<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">this recognition not only because of his individual actions but also<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">from the institutional action of the FCA and the Dogo Argentino<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Club \u201cDr. Antonio Nores Martinez\u201d.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE:<\/strong> It is an athletic dog, mesomorphic,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">normal type, of harmonious proportions. With powerful muscles and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">agile, his appearance gives the impression of power, energy and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">strength, in contrast to its expression of friendship and gentleness.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All-white; can have a single dark spot on the skull.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS<\/strong>: Mesocephalic, the muzzle should<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">be the same length as the skull.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The height at the withers should be slightly greater than the height at<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the croup.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Depth of chest should represent at least 50% of the height at the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The length of the body should exceed the height at the withers by<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">only 10% (maximum).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR AND TEMPERAMENT<\/strong>: It should be silent, never<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">barking on the trail, with a keen nose and excellent flair, vent, agile,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">strong, robust and especially brave.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Should never be aggressive toward humans, a feature that will be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">severely observed. It must give you love without conditions or<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">reservations. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>HEAD<\/strong>: Of mesocephalic type, it looks strong and powerful.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The cranio-facial axes are convergent.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull: Compact, convex seen in profile and from the front due to the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">outline of the well developed masticatory and neck muscles.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Occiput: Occipital protuberance not visible due to powerful muscles<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of neck which hide it completely.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop: Defined but should not be deep or have sharp\/abrupt angles.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION: As long as the skull, the line joining the two<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">frontal orbital muscles is equidistant from the occiput and the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mandibular joint of the upper jaws.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose: Strongly Black pigmented. Nostrils well opened.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle: Same length as the skull, with concave top line.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips: Tight, free edges, black pigmented, never pendulous.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws\/Teeth: Jaws correctly positioned, well-developed and strong,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">With no under or overshot, with healthy teeth, large and with normal<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">implant. Full dentition is recommended. Scissor bite, pincer bite is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">accepted.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cheeks: Large, marked, covered by strong skin, without folds. Welldeveloped masseter muscles.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes: Medium size, almond shaped, dark or hazel coloured, lids<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">preferably with black pigmentation. Sub-frontal position, wide apart,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">lively and intelligent expression but at the same time remarkably<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">firm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ears: Set high, lateral, well apart due to the width of the skull.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Functionally, they should be cropped and erect, in triangular shape<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and with a length that should not exceed 50% of the front edge of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">auricle of the natural ear. Without being cropped, they are of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">medium length, broad, thick, flat and rounded at the tip.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Covered with smooth hair which is slightly shorter than on the rest of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the body; they can have small spots, not to be penalized.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In natural position they hang down covering the back of the cheeks.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When the dog is alert they may be carried semi-erect. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK<\/strong>: Thick, arched, the skin of the throat is very thick forming<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">smooth folds without forming dewlap. The elasticity of the skin is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">due to the cellular tissue being very lax.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY<\/strong>: Rectangular. The length of the body (measured from the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">point of shoulder to point of buttock) may exceed the height at the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">withers by only 10%.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Top line: Higher at the withers, sloping gently to the croup. The<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">adults have a median furrow along the spine caused by the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">prominence of the spinal muscles. The thorax is long with ribs moderately curved.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Underline and Belly: Rising slightly on the bottom line of the chest,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">never tucked up, strong and with good muscle tension.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong>: Long, not to exceed the hock joint, thick medium set. At rest<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">it hangs down naturally, in action it is raised in an arc with an ample<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">curve.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LIMBS<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Legs straight, vertical, with short and tight toes.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shoulders: Laid back, with great muscular development without<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">exaggerations.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper arm: Same length as the shoulder; well inclined.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elbows: Sturdy, covered with a thicker and more elastic skin,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">without folds or wrinkles. Naturally placed against the chest wall.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forearm: As long as the upper arm, perpendicular to the ground,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">straight with strong bone and muscles. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pastern joint: Broad and in line with the forearm, without bony<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">prominences or skin folds.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pastern: Rather flat, well boned; seen from the side slightly inclined,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">without exaggeration.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Front feet: With short and tight-fitting toes. With strong thick and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">resistant pads, preferably black pigmented.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Well muscled, with short pasterns and tightfitting toes, without dewclaws. Moderate angulation.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper thigh: Well proportioned, with visible and well developed<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">muscles.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stifles: Well angulated.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lower thigh: Slightly shorter than upper thigh, strong and muscular.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hock joint \/ Hock: The tarsus-metatarsus section is short, strong and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">firm, ensuring powerful propulsion of the hind limb. Tarsus is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">robust, with the point of the hock very prominent. Hocks are strong,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">almost cylindrical and vertical, without dewclaws.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hind feet: Similar to forefeet, although somewhat smaller and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">slightly longer, maintaining the same characteristics.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong>: Agile and firm; with noticeable<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">modification when showing interest in something, changing into an<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">alert attitude and responding with quick reflexes, typical for this<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">breed. Calm when walking; trot is extended, with good front<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">suspension and powerful rear propulsion. At gallop, the dog shows<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">all of its energy, fully displaying its power. The movement is agile<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and firm when walking, trotting or galloping. Should be harmonious<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and balanced showing a solid body construction. Ambling (pacing) is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">not accepted and is considered a serious fault.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SKIN<\/strong>: Homogeneous, thick but elastic. The semi-loose<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">subcutaneous tissue is elastic, without wrinkling, except on the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">throat, where the subcutaneous tissue is more lax. Lips and eyelids<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pigmented in black are preferred. Black pigmented skin is not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">penalized. <\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COAT<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hair: Uniform, short, smooth, with an average length of 1.5 to 2 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Density and thickness vary according to climate.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Colour: Entirely white. Only one black or dark-coloured patch on the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">skull, but which can also be located on one ear or around one eye.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The size of the spot must be in proportion to the size of the head, not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">exceeding 10% of the latter. Flat ribs. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Lack of depth of chest, which does not reach the level of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">elbows.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Lack of angulation on the limbs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Croup higher than withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Ambling movement (pacing).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Males and females whose weight does not comply with the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">official valid standard and not in proportion to the size of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dog.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>DISQUALIFYING FAULTS<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities<\/span><br
