In other countries, the name of the breed is associated<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with splashing around in water. Originally, this dog was used for<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">wildfowling. It descends from the Barbet of which it has conserved<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">many characteristics. In 1743, it was called the \u201ccaniche\u201d: the female<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of the barbet in French. Thereafter the Barbet and the Caniche<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(Poodle) were gradually separated. Breeders worked hard to obtain<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">original subjects of uniform colour. The Poodle became very<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">popular as a companion dog because of its friendly, joyful and loyal<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">character and also because of its four sizes and different colours<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">which everyone can choose according to preference.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong>: Dog of medium proportions, with a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">characteristic frizzy coat which is either curly or corded. The<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">appearance is that of an intelligent dog, constantly alert and active,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">harmoniously built, giving an impression of elegance and pride.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The length of the muzzle is approximately 9\/10 of that of the skull.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The length of the body (scapulo-ischial) is slightly more than the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">height at the withers. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The height at the withers is practically equal to the height at the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">croup.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The height at the elbow is 5\/9 of the height at the withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR\/TEMPERAMENT<\/strong>: A dog renowned for its loyalty,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">capable of learning and being trained thus making it a particularly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pleasant companion dog.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>HEAD<\/strong>: Distinguished, rectilinear and in proportion to the body. The<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">head must be well chiselled and neither heavy nor excessively fine.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull: Its width is less than half the length of the head. The entire<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">skull, seen from above, appears oval and seen from the side, slightly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">convex. The axes of the skull and muzzle are slightly divergent. The<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">superciliary arches are moderately pronounced and covered with<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">long hair. The frontal furrow is wide between the eyes, narrowing<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">towards the occiput, which is very pronounced. (In Miniatures it can<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">be slightly less pronounced).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop: Only slightly pronounced, but can never be absent.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose: Developed, vertical profile; open nostrils. Black nose in black,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">white and grey subjects; brown nose in brown subjects. In fawn<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(apricot\/red) subjects, the nose should be black or brown<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">according to the intensity of the fawn colour. In light fawn<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">subjects the nose should be as dark as possible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle: Upper profile is perfectly straight; its length is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">approximately 9\/10 of that of the skull. The branches of the lower<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">jaw are almost parallel. The muzzle is strong. The lower profile of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the muzzle is determined by the lower jaw and not by the edge of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">upper lip.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips: Moderately developed, rather tight, of medium thickness with<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the upper lip resting on the lower lip without hanging over it. Black<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">in black, white and grey subjects; brown in brown subjects. In orange<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">fawn [apricot] and in red fawn subjects, the lips are more or less dark<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">brown or black. The corner of the lips must not be pronounced. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws\/Teeth: Complete scissor bite. Strong teeth.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cheeks: Not prominent, shaped on the bones. The sub-orbital regions<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">are chiselled and very slightly filled. Zygomatic arches very slightly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pronounced.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes: Keen expression, placed at the level of the stop and slightly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">oblique. Almond shaped. Black or dark brown colour. In brown<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">subjects, the colour may be dark amber. The eye rims are black in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">black, white and grey subjects. Brown in brown subjects. In light<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">fawn subjects the eye rims should be as dark as possible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ears: Rather long, falling along the cheeks, set on in the prolongation<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of a line going from the top of the nose and passing under the outer<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">corner of the eye; flat, widening after the attachment and rounded at<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the tip, they are covered with very long, wavy hair. The leather<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">should reach \u2013 or ideally pass \u2013 the corner of the lips when<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pulled forward.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK<\/strong>: Strong, slightly arched after the nape, of medium length and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">well proportioned. The head is carried high and proudly. The neck,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">without dewlap, is of oval cross section. Its length is slightly less<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">than that of the head.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY<\/strong>: Well proportioned. It is slightly longer than the height at the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Top line: harmonious and taut.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Withers: Moderately developed. The height at the withers is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">practically equal to the height from the top of the croup to the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ground.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Back: Short.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loin: Firm and muscled.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Croup: Rounded but not falling away.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chest: Reaching the elbow; its width is equal to 2\/3 of its depth.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forechest, the point of the sternum should be slightly prominent and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">set rather high. In Standard Poodles, the perimeter of the thorax,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">measured behind the shoulders, should measure 10 cm more than the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">height at the withers. Oval cross section, broad at the dorsal part.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Underline and belly: Tucked up but not excessively so. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong>: Set on quite high at the level of the loin (ideally carried at a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cten past nine\u201d compared to the topline).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>LIMBS<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Perfectly upright and parallel, well muscled<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with good bone. The height from the elbow to the ground is slightly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">more than half the height at the withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shoulder: Oblique, muscular. The shoulder blade forms an angle of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">approximately 110\u00b0 to the humerus.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper arm: The length of the humerus corresponds to that of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">shoulder blade.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Carpus (Wrist): In continuous line with front of the forearm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metacarpus (Pastern): Strong and almost upright seen in profile.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forefeet: Rather small, firm, of short oval shape. Toes are well<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">arched and tight fitting. The pads are hard and thick. The nails are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">black in black and grey subjects. They are brown in brown subjects.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In whites the nails may be any colour in the range from horn colour<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to black. In the fawns they are brown or black; according to coat<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">colour, as dark as possible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Hind legs parallel seen from behind; muscles<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">developed and very apparent.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thigh: Well muscled and strong. Coxo-femoral angle should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pronounced.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stifle (Knee): Femoro-tibial angles should be pronounced.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hock joint: The hock joint is relatively well angulated. (tibio-tarsal<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">joint should be well angulated).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metatarsus (Rear pastern): Rather short and upright. The Poodle<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">should be born without dewclaws on the hind legs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hind feet: Rather small, firm, of short oval shape. Toes are well<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">arched and tight fitting. The pads are hard and thick. The nails are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">black in black and grey subjects. They are brown in brown subjects.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In whites the nails may be any colour in the range from horn colour<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to black. In the fawns they are brown or black.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT\/MOVEMENT<\/strong>: The Poodle has a light and bouncy gait.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SKIN<\/strong>: Supple, not loose, pigmented. Black, brown, grey and fawn<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Poodles must be pigmented in accordance with the colour of their<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">coat. In white Poodles, a silver coloured skin is sought after.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>COAT<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hair:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Curly Coat: Profuse of fine, woolly texture, very frizzy, elastic and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">resistant to pressure of the hand. It should be thick, well furnished, of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">equal length and form even curls.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Corded Coat: Profuse of fine, woolly texture and dense, forming<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">characteristic cords which should measure at least 20 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Colour: Solid colour: black, white, brown, grey, fawn.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Brown should be deep, rather dark, uniform and warm. Beige and its<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">paler derivatives are not admitted. Grey must be uniform, deep,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">neither blackish nor whitish. Fawn must be uniform. Can go from<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pale fawn to red fawn or even be orange fawn (apricot). Eyelids,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">nose, lips, gums, palate, natural orifices, scrotum and pads are well<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pigmented. For light fawn subjects, all pigmentation should be as<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dark as possible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SIZE AND WEIGHT:<\/strong> The sexual dimorphism must be clearly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">visible in all varieties.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Standard Poodles: Over 45 cm up to 60 cm with a tolerance of +2<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">cm. The Standard Poodle must be the enlarged and developed replica<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of the Medium Poodle of which it retains the same characteristics.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Medium Poodles: Over 35 cm up to 45 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Miniature Poodles: Over 28 cm up to 35 cm. The Miniature Poodle<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">must display the appearance of a reduced Medium Poodle, retaining<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">as much as possible the same proportions and without presenting any<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">sign of dwarfism.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Toy Poodles: Over 24 cm (with a tolerance of -1cm) up to 28 cm<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(sought after ideal: 25 cm). The Toy Poodle maintains, in its<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ensemble, the aspect of a Miniature Poodle and the same general<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">proportions complying with all the points of the standard. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Any sign of dwarfism is excluded; only the external occipital<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">protuberance may be less pronounced.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">welfare of the dog.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">SEVERE FAULTS:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Eyes: too big and too round, or sunken, not dark enough.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Ears: too short (not reaching the corner of the lips).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Snipey or pointed muzzle.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Convex muzzle.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Roach or sway back.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Tail set on too low.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Croup falling away.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Rear angulations too straight or over-angulated.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Flowing or extended gait.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Sparse, soft or wire hair.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Undefined or not solid colour.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Partially depigmented nose.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Absence of 2 PM2.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">DISQUALIFYING FAULTS:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy dogs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">will be disqualified.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Lacks type and particularly in head, hinting notably at a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mixture with another breed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Height exceeding 62cm in Standards and less than 23 cm in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Toys.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Absence of tail or naturally short tail.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Dewclaws or evidence of dewclaws on rear limbs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any subject displaying signs of dwarfism: globulous skull,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">absence of occipital protuberance, very pronounced stop, <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">prominent eyes, muzzle too short and turned up.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Median furrow practically inexistant.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Very light bone in Toys.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Tail completely curled.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Subjects whose coat is not of solid colour.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 All white marks on the body and\/or feet for all subjects other<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">than white.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Nose completely depigmented.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Underbite or overbite.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Every tooth position which could injure the dog (for<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">instance: ill-positioned canine that touches the palate).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Absence of 1 incisor or 1 canine or 1 carnassial.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Absence of one PM3 or of one PM4.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Absence of three or more PM (except PM1).<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">N.B:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">descended into the scrotum.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed typical<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">conformation, should be used for breeding.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Addition to standard<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Judging a Poodle in a show does not mean it is judged in a<\/span><\/strong><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">grooming contest. It is not encouraged to stimulate overgrooming one\u2019s dog.<\/span><\/strong><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">AUTHORIZED SHOW CLIPS<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cLion Clip\u201d: The Poodle, whether curly or corded, shall be clipped<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">on the hindquarters up to the ribs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Also clipped: the muzzle, above and underneath from the lower<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">eyelids; the cheeks; the forelegs and hindlegs, except for the cuffs or<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">bracelets and optional motifs on the hindquarters; the tail, except for<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">round or oblong terminal pompom. A moustache is required for all<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">subjects. Leaving hair, called \u201ctrousers\u201d, on the forelegs is admitted. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cModern Clip\u201d: Leaving hair on all four legs is only admitted on<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">condition that the following norms are respected:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1.Shall be clipped:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a) The lower part of the forelegs, from the nails to the tip of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dewclaw, the lower part of the hindlegs to the same height.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Machine clipping, limited to the toes only, is admitted.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">b) The head and the tail in compliance with rules described<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">above.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shall be exceptionally admitted in this clip:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 The presence, under the lower jaw, of short hair no longer than 1cm<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the lower line of which should be cut parallel to the lower jaw. A<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">beard, called \u201cgoat\u2019s beard\u201d, is not permitted.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 The suppression of the pompom on the tail.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. Shortened coat:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Over the body, in order to give \u201cshot silk\u201d effect on the line of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">back, more or less long but at least 1cm. The length shall be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">gradually increased over the ribs and above the limbs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3. Neatened coat:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a) On the head which keeps a topknot of reasonable height as<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">well as down behind the neck to the withers and the front,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">without discontinuity, to the shaven part of the foot<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">following a slightly slanting line from the top of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">forechest downwards. On the top of the ears and for a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">maximum of one third of their length, the coat may be cut<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with scissors or clipped in the direction of the hair. The<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">lower part shall be left covered in hair whose length shall<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">increase gradually, from top to bottom, to end in fringes<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">which may be levelled.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">b) On the limbs, \u201ctrousers\u201d making a distinct transition from the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">shaven part of the feet. The length of the hair increases<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">gradully towards the top to display, on the shoulder and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">likewise the thigh, a length of 4 to 7 cms measured by<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pulling the hair to straighten it, in proportion to the size of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the exhibit while avoiding any \u201cfluffy\u201d effect. The hind<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201ctrousers\u201d must allow for the typical angulation of the Poodle<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to be seen. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All other fancy clips which do not comply with these norms<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">are eliminatory. Whatever the standard outline obtained by<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">grooming, it should have no influence whatsoever on the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">placements in shows, all exhibits in the same class should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">judged and placed together.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cEnglish Clip\u201d: To the \u201cLion Clip\u201d add motifs on the hindquarters,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">i.e. bracelets and cuffs. On the head: a topknot. For this clip the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">moustache is optional. The absence of demarcation on the hair of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">hindquarters is tolerated. The topknot is optional (it is forbidden to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">use lacquer or any other substance to keep the topknot in place).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cPuppy Clip\u201d: Takes over the several shaven parts which<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">characterize the Modern clip. On the head: a topknot of a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">reasonable height. The coat on the forequarters should form a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ball, comparable to an \u2018egg\u2019 seen from the forechest up to the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">topknot. The so-called \u2018trousers\u2019 on the forequarters is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">preserved, accentuating the typical poodle angulation.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The tail \u2013 save for a pompon \u2013 should have an oval or oblong<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">shape.
