The experiment<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">established that the progeny of the mating of male dog to female<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">wolf as well as that of male wolf to female dog, could be reared. The<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">vast majority of the products of these matings possessed the genetic<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">requirements for continuation of breeding. In the year 1965, after the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ending of the experiment, a plan for the breeding of this new breed<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">was worked out. This was to combine the usable qualities of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">wolf with the favourable qualities of the dog. In the year 1982, the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ceskoslovensk\u00fd Vlciak, through the general committee of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">breeders\u2019 associations of the CSSR of that time, was recognized as a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">national breed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong> : Firm type in constitution. Above<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">average size with rectangular frame. In body shape, movement, coat<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">texture, colour of coat and mask, similar to the wolf.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Length of body : Height at withers = 10 : 9. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Length of muzzle : Length of cranial region = 1 : 1.5.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR \/ TEMPERAMENT<\/strong> : Lively, very active, capable<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of endurance, docile with quick reactions. Fearless and courageous.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Suspicious. Shows tremendous loyalty towards his master.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Resistant to weather conditions. Versatile in his uses.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>HEAD<\/strong> : Symmetrical, well muscled. Seen from the side and from<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">above, it forms a blunt wedge. Sex should be unmistakable.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull : Seen from the side and from the front, the forehead is slightly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">arched. No marked frontal furrow. Occipital bone clearly visible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop : Moderate.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose : Oval shape, black.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle : Clean, not broad; straight bridge of nose.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips : Tight fitting. No gap at corner of mouth. Rims of lips are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">black.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws\/Teeth : Jaws strong and symmetrical. Well developed teeth,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">specially the canines. Scissor or pincer bite with 42 teeth according<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to the usual tooth set. Regular teeth set.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cheeks : Clean, sufficiently muscled, not markedly protruding.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes : Small, slanting, amber coloured. Well fitting lids.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ears : Pricked, thin, triangular, short (i.e. not longer than 1\/6th of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">height at withers); the lateral point of the set on of the ears and the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">outer corner of the eyes are in a direct line. A vertical line from tip<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of ear would run close along the head.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK<\/strong> : Dry, well muscled. In repose forms an angle of up to 40<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">degrees to the horizontal. The neck must be sufficiently long for the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">nose to touch the ground effortlessly.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Topline : Flowing transition from neck to body. Sloping away<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">sligthly. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Withers : Well muscled, pronounced. Though pronounced, they<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">must not interrupt the flow of the topline.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Back : Firm and straight.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loins : Short, well muscled, not broad, sloping slightly.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Croup : Short, well muscled, not broad, falling away slightly.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chest : Symmetrical, well muscled, roomy, pear-shaped and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">narrowing towards the sternum. The depth of chest does not reach to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the elbows. The point of the sternum does not extend beyond the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">shoulder joints.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Underline and belly : Taut bellly, tucked up. Slightly hollow in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">flanks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong> : Set on high, hanging straight down. When dog is excited,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">generally raised in sickle shape.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LIMBS<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: The front legs are straight, strong, clean and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">close together with slightly turned out feet.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shoulder : The shoulder blade is placed rather far forward, well<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">muscled. It forms an angle of nearly 65 degrees to the horizontal.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper arm : Strongly muscled, forms an angle of 120 to 130 degrees<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to the shoulder blade.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elbow : Close fitting, turned neither in nor out, well defined,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">flexible. Upper arm and forearm form an angle of approximately<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">150 degrees.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forearm : Long, clean and straight. The length of the forearm and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pastern is 55% of height at withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pastern joint : Solid, flexible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pastern : Long, forms an angle of at least 75 degrees to the ground.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lightly springy in movement.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forefeet : Large, turned slightly outwards. Longish arched toes and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">strong, dark nails. Well defined, elastic, dark pads. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Powerful. The hind legs stand parallel. An<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">imaginary vertical line drawn from the point of the ischium, would<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">run midway through the hock joint. The dewclaws are undesirable<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and must be eliminated.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper thigh : Long, well muscled. Forms an angle of 80 degrees to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the pelvis. The hip joint is sturdy and flexible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stifle (Knee): Strong and flexible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lower thigh : Long, clean, well muscled. Forms an angle of about<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">130 degrees with the hock.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hock joint : Clean, solid, flexible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hock : Long, clean. Position almost vertical to the ground.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hind feet : Longish, arched toes with strong dark nails.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong> : Harmonious, light-footed, ground covering<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">trot in which the limbs skim over the ground as closely as possible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Head and neck incline to the horizontal. Pacing when walking.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SKIN<\/strong> : Elastic, tight, without wrinkles, unpigmented.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COAT<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hair : Straight and close. Winter and summer coat differ greatly. In<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">winter an immense undercoat is predominant and, together with the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">topcoat, forms a thick coat all over the body. It is necessary for the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">hair to cover the belly, the inside of the upper thigh, the scrotum, the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">inner part of the ear and the area between the toes. Well coated neck.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Colour : Yellowish-gray to silver-gray with a charateristic light<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mask. Light hair also on the underside of the neck and the forechest.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dark gray colour with light mask is permissible.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SIZE AND WEIGHT<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height at withers : Dogs at least 65 cm,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bitches at least 60 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Weight : Dogs at least 26 kg,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bitches at least 20 kg. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong> : Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Heavy or light head.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Flat forehead.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 The absence of two PM1 (premolar 1) or of both M3 (molar 3) is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">not to be penalized. However, the absence of one M3 in addition<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to 2 PM1 or the absence of one PM1 in addition to both M3 is to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">be considered as a fault.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Dark brown, black or different coloured eyes.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Coarse ear. High or low set-on of ear.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Neck carried high in repose; low position of neck when standing.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Unpronounced withers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Untypical topline.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Long croup.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Tail long, set on low and not carried correctly.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Too little or too much angulation in forequarters.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Weak pastern.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Too little or too much angulation in hindquarters.
