Section 1 Sheepdogs.<\/span>
With working trial.<\/span><\/p>\n
experiment took place in the CSSR of that time, namely, the crossing<\/span>
of a German Shepherd Dog with a Carpathian wolf. The experiment<\/span>
established that the progeny of the mating of male dog to female<\/span>
wolf as well as that of male wolf to female dog, could be reared. The<\/span>
vast majority of the products of these matings possessed the genetic<\/span>
requirements for continuation of breeding. In the year 1965, after the<\/span>
ending of the experiment, a plan for the breeding of this new breed<\/span>
was worked out. This was to combine the usable qualities of the<\/span>
wolf with the favourable qualities of the dog. In the year 1982, the<\/span>
Ceskoslovensk\u00fd Vlciak, through the general committee of the<\/span>
breeders\u2019 associations of the CSSR of that time, was recognized as a<\/span>
national breed.<\/span>
GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong> : Firm type in constitution. Above<\/span>
average size with rectangular frame. In body shape, movement, coat<\/span>
texture, colour of coat and mask, similar to the wolf.<\/span>
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS :<\/span>
– Length of body : Height at withers = 10 : 9. <\/span>
– Length of muzzle : Length of cranial region = 1 : 1.5.<\/span>
BEHAVIOUR \/ TEMPERAMENT<\/strong> : Lively, very active, capable<\/span>
of endurance, docile with quick reactions. Fearless and courageous.<\/span>
Suspicious. Shows tremendous loyalty towards his master.<\/span>
Resistant to weather conditions. Versatile in his uses.<\/span>
HEAD<\/strong> : Symmetrical, well muscled. Seen from the side and from<\/span>
above, it forms a blunt wedge. Sex should be unmistakable.<\/span>
CRANIAL REGION :<\/span>
Skull : Seen from the side and from the front, the forehead is slightly<\/span>
arched. No marked frontal furrow. Occipital bone clearly visible.<\/span>
Stop : Moderate.<\/span>
FACIAL REGION :<\/span>
Nose : Oval shape, black.<\/span>
Muzzle : Clean, not broad; straight bridge of nose.<\/span>
Lips : Tight fitting. No gap at corner of mouth. Rims of lips are<\/span>
black.<\/span>
Jaws\/Teeth : Jaws strong and symmetrical. Well developed teeth,<\/span>
specially the canines. Scissor or pincer bite with 42 teeth according<\/span>
to the usual tooth set. Regular teeth set.<\/span>
Cheeks : Clean, sufficiently muscled, not markedly protruding.<\/span>
Eyes : Small, slanting, amber coloured. Well fitting lids.<\/span>
Ears : Pricked, thin, triangular, short (i.e. not longer than 1\/6th of the<\/span>
height at withers); the lateral point of the set on of the ears and the<\/span>
outer corner of the eyes are in a direct line. A vertical line from tip<\/span>
of ear would run close along the head.<\/span>
NECK<\/strong> : Dry, well muscled. In repose forms an angle of up to 40<\/span>
degrees to the horizontal. The neck must be sufficiently long for the<\/span>
nose to touch the ground effortlessly.<\/span>
BODY<\/strong> :<\/span>
Topline : Flowing transition from neck to body. Sloping away<\/span>
sligthly. <\/span>
Withers : Well muscled, pronounced. Though pronounced, they<\/span>
must not interrupt the flow of the topline.<\/span>
Back : Firm and straight.<\/span>
Loins : Short, well muscled, not broad, sloping slightly.<\/span>
Croup : Short, well muscled, not broad, falling away slightly.<\/span>
Chest : Symmetrical, well muscled, roomy, pear-shaped and<\/span>
narrowing towards the sternum. The depth of chest does not reach to<\/span>
the elbows. The point of the sternum does not extend beyond the<\/span>
shoulder joints.<\/span>
Underline and belly : Taut bellly, tucked up. Slightly hollow in<\/span>
flanks.<\/span><\/p>\n

LIMBS<\/span><\/strong>
FOREQUARTERS :<\/span>
General appearance: The front legs are straight, strong, clean and<\/span>
close together with slightly turned out feet.<\/span>
Shoulder : The shoulder blade is placed rather far forward, well<\/span>
muscled. It forms an angle of nearly 65 degrees to the horizontal.<\/span>
Upper arm : Strongly muscled, forms an angle of 120 to 130 degrees<\/span>
to the shoulder blade.<\/span>
Elbow : Close fitting, turned neither in nor out, well defined,<\/span>
flexible. Upper arm and forearm form an angle of approximately<\/span>
150 degrees.<\/span>
Forearm : Long, clean and straight. The length of the forearm and<\/span>
pastern is 55% of height at withers.<\/span>
Pastern joint : Solid, flexible.<\/span>
Pastern : Long, forms an angle of at least 75 degrees to the ground.<\/span>
Lightly springy in movement.<\/span>
Forefeet : Large, turned slightly outwards. Longish arched toes and<\/span>
strong, dark nails. Well defined, elastic, dark pads. <\/span>
HINDQUARTERS :<\/span>
General appearance: Powerful. The hind legs stand parallel. An<\/span>
imaginary vertical line drawn from the point of the ischium, would<\/span>
run midway through the hock joint. The dewclaws are undesirable<\/span>
and must be eliminated.<\/span>
Upper thigh : Long, well muscled. Forms an angle of 80 degrees to<\/span>
the pelvis. The hip joint is sturdy and flexible.<\/span>
Stifle (Knee): Strong and flexible.<\/span>
Lower thigh : Long, clean, well muscled. Forms an angle of about<\/span>
130 degrees with the hock.<\/span>
Hock joint : Clean, solid, flexible.<\/span>
Hock : Long, clean. Position almost vertical to the ground.<\/span>
Hind feet : Longish, arched toes with strong dark nails.<\/span>
GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong> : Harmonious, light-footed, ground covering<\/span>
trot in which the limbs skim over the ground as closely as possible.<\/span>
Head and neck incline to the horizontal. Pacing when walking.<\/span>
SKIN<\/strong> : Elastic, tight, without wrinkles, unpigmented.<\/span>
COAT<\/span><\/strong>
Hair : Straight and close. Winter and summer coat differ greatly. In<\/span>
winter an immense undercoat is predominant and, together with the<\/span>
topcoat, forms a thick coat all over the body. It is necessary for the<\/span>
hair to cover the belly, the inside of the upper thigh, the scrotum, the<\/span>
inner part of the ear and the area between the toes. Well coated neck.<\/span>
Colour : Yellowish-gray to silver-gray with a charateristic light<\/span>
mask. Light hair also on the underside of the neck and the forechest.<\/span>
Dark gray colour with light mask is permissible.<\/span>
SIZE AND WEIGHT<\/strong> :<\/span>
Height at withers : Dogs at least 65 cm,<\/span>
Bitches at least 60 cm.<\/span>
Weight : Dogs at least 26 kg,<\/span>
Bitches at least 20 kg. <\/span>
FAULTS<\/strong> : Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span>
considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be<\/span>
regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span>
upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/span>
\u2022 Heavy or light head.<\/span>
\u2022 Flat forehead.<\/span>
\u2022 The absence of two PM1 (premolar 1) or of both M3 (molar 3) is<\/span>
not to be penalized. However, the absence of one M3 in addition<\/span>
to 2 PM1 or the absence of one PM1 in addition to both M3 is to<\/span>
be considered as a fault.<\/span>
\u2022 Dark brown, black or different coloured eyes.<\/span>
\u2022 Coarse ear. High or low set-on of ear.<\/span>
\u2022 Neck carried high in repose; low position of neck when standing.<\/span>
\u2022 Unpronounced withers.<\/span>
\u2022 Untypical topline.<\/span>
\u2022 Long croup.<\/span>
\u2022 Tail long, set on low and not carried correctly.<\/span>
\u2022 Too little or too much angulation in forequarters.<\/span>
\u2022 Weak pastern.<\/span>
\u2022 Too little or too much angulation in hindquarters. Insufficient<\/span>
muscle.<\/span>
\u2022 Barely pronounced mask.<\/span>
\u2022 Short, wavy movement.<\/span>
DISQUALIFYING FAULTS :<\/span><\/strong>
\u2022 Aggresive or overly shy.<\/span>
\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities<\/span>
shall be disqualified.<\/span>
\u2022 Discrepancy in proportions.<\/span>
\u2022 Faults in deportment and temperament.<\/span>
\u2022 Untypical head.<\/span>
\u2022 Missing teeth (except 2 PM1 and the M 3, see \u00a7 faults), irregular<\/span>
bite.<\/span>
\u2022 Untypical shape and position of eyes.<\/span>
\u2022 Untypical set-on and shape of ears. <\/span>
\u2022 Dewlap.<\/span>
\u2022 Strong slope in croup.<\/span>
\u2022 Untypical ribcage.<\/span>
\u2022 Tail untypical in set on and carriage.<\/span>
\u2022 Faulty and untypical position of front legs.<\/span>
\u2022 Stand-off and untypical coat.<\/span>
\u2022 Colours other than those in the standard.<\/span>
\u2022 Slack ligaments.<\/span>
\u2022 Untypical movement.<\/span>
N.B:<\/span><\/strong>
\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully<\/span>
descended into the scrotum.<\/span>
\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed typical<\/span>
