In accordance with the principle of \u201eby working ability to<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">type\u201c and with consequent regard to freedom of breeding, within a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">short time a gundog has been developed from the best of the rough<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">coated types (Pudelpointer, Griffon Korthals, German Broken<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Coated Pointing Dog) and by using the German Shorthaired Pointer,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">that excels through his useful weatherproof coat and his versatility in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">all fields of practical hunting. Due to these characteristics, the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Deutsch Drahthaar within a few decades has developed to become<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the most popular and well-tried among the large gundog breeds in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Germany as well as in many countries of the world. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong>: A pointing dog of noble appearance,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with harsh coat completely protecting the skin, with an attentive<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">expression full of energy. The movement should be powerful, ground<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">covering, flowing and harmonious.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS<\/strong>: The length of the body and the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">height at the withers should be as equal as possible. The length of the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">body may exceed the height at the withers by up to 3 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR \/ TEMPERAMENT<\/strong>: Firm, self-controlled, wellbalanced, without shyness of game, neither sensitive when shots are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">fired nor shy or aggressive.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>HEAD<\/strong>: In proportion to the size and the sex of the dog. Lines of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">head slightly diverging.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull: Flat, slightly rounded at the sides only, moderately broad,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pronounced superciliary ridges.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop: Clearly visibly pronounced.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose: Strongly pigmented corresponding to the colour of the coat.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nostrils well opened.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle: Long, broad, strong, deep. Well pigmented<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">corresponding to the colour of the coat.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws \/ teeth: Large teeth. Powerful jaws with a regular, complete<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">scissor bite with the upper teeth closely overlapping the lower teeth<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and set square to the jaws. 42 teeth according to the dentition<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">formula.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes: As dark as possible, neither too deep-set nor protruding, with<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">an alert, lively expression. Eyerims well pigmented and close-fitting.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ears: Of medium size, set on high and wide, not twisted.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK<\/strong>: Of medium length, strongly muscled; slightly arched<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">napeline, clean cut throat, no dewlap. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Topline: Slightly sloping from the withers in a straight line.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Withers: Pronounced.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Back: Firm, well muscled.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loins: Short, broad, muscular loin region.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Croup: Long and broad, slightly sloping and well muscled. Broad<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pelvis.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chest: Broad and deep with well developed forechest, the breastbone<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">reaching as far back as possible. Ribs well arched.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Underline and belly: Slight tuck-up towards the rear in an elegant<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">curve.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong>: Following the topline, carried as horizontally as possible or<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">slightly raised, but not steep. Neither too thick nor too thin. Docked<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">for the hunting purposes. (In countries where docking is prohibited<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">by law, the tail may be left natural. It should reach to the hocks and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">should be carried straight or slightly sabre-like.)<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>LIMBS<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance : Viewed from the front, straight and parallel,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">viewed from the side, legs set well under the body. They are set parallel, neither<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">turning in nor out in stance or when moving. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance : Viewed from behind, straight and parallel.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Well angulated at the stifles and the hocks. Strong bones.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper thigh: Long, broad, muscular, with good angulation between<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pelvis and upper thigh.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stifle: Strong, with good angulation between upper and lower thigh.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lower thigh: Long, muscular and sinewy.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hocks: Short, perpendicular to the ground.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hind feet: Oval-round with well-knit toes and sufficiently thick,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tough, robust and well-pigmented pads. They are set parallel in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">stance and when moving, turning neither in nor out.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong>: Covering lots of ground, with good reach<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and drive, parallel coming and going; with upstanding posture.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SKIN<\/strong>: Tight, close-fitting, without folds.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>COAT<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HAIR: Wirehaired harsh, flat lying and dense. Outer coat<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">approximately 2 to 4 cm long; dense, waterresistant undercoat. The<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">outlines of the body may not be obscured by longer coat. Through its<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">harshness and density it should provide as good protection against<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">weather and injuries as possible. The lower parts of the legs, as well<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">as the lower region of the brisket and the belly, should be shorter but<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">densely coated, the head and the ears to be shorter and at the same<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">time denser but never softer coated. Pronounced eyebrows and a well<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">developed not too long, as harsh as possible beard emphasise the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">determined expression.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COLOUR:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Brown roan with or without patches.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Black roan, with or without patches.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Brown with or without white chest patch.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Light roan.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">No other colour is permitted. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SIZE<\/strong>: Height at withers: Dogs: 61 to 68 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bitches: 57 to 64 cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong>: Any departure of the foregoing points must be considered<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">health and welfare of the dog.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">SEVERE FAULTS:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Short or narrow or pointed muzzle.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Weak dentition.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Very loose eyelids.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Swayback or roach back.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Heavily overbuilt.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Elbows heavily turning in or out.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Bandy-legged, cow hocked or close behind, in stance as<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">well as in movement.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Pacing permanently when stepping or trotting, stiff or<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mincing gait.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Sparce coat, lacking undercoat.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>DISQUALIFYING FAULTS<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy dogs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical of behavioural<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">abnormalities shall be disqualified.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Over- or undershot bite, wry mouth, missing teeth other than<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">P1, the canines being set too narrow.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Entropion, ectropion, differently coloured eyes.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Innate kinky or stumpy tail.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Faulty pigment. <\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">N.B.:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">descended into the scrotum.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">typical conformation should be used for breeding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wpview-selection-after\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;
