Molossoid Breeds, Mountain <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">type.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Without working trial.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY<\/strong>: Central Asia Shepherd Dog<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(CASD) is one of the most ancient breed of dogs. They were formed<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">as a breed from natural selection during more than four thousand<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">years in the vast territory, which spreads nowadays from the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Caspian Sea to China and from Southern Ural to Afghanistan. Its<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">heritage is from the most ancient dogs of Tibet, Cattle Dogs from<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">various nomad tribes\u2019 dogs that are closely related to the Mongolian<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shepherd Dog and the Tibetan Mastiff. The CASD were mainly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">used to protect cattle, caravans and the owner\u2019s dwellings, and being<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">exposed to rigid natural selection. Hard living conditions and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">constant struggle against predators have had influence on the shape<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">as well as the dog\u2019s character and it has made it strong, fearless, and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">taught it to save its energy. In the places of primordial habitation,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the CASD were used mainly to protect herds from predators and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">also as guard dogs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The work with the breed started in the USSR in the 1930s.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong>: The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of harmonious build and large stature, moderately long (neither long<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">nor short in body).<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Robust, muscular body, voluminous, but not with visible muscles.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sexual dimorphism is clearly defined. The males are more massive<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and courageous than females with more pronounced withers and a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">larger head. Full maturity is reached by the age of 3 years.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS<\/strong>: The length of body only slightly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">exceeds the height at withers. Larger stature is desirable but<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">proportional constitution must remain. Length of forelegs up to the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">elbow is 50-52 % of the height at the withers. The length of muzzle<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">is less than 1\/2 the length of head, but more than a 1\/3.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR AND TEMPERAMENT<\/strong>: Self assured, balanced<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">quiet, proud and independent. The dogs are very courageous and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">have high working capacity, endurance and a natural instinct of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">territory. Fearlessness towards large predators is a characteristic<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">feature.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>HEAD<\/strong>: Massive and in balance with general appearance. Head<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">shape is close to rectangular, seen from above and side.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION: Deep in skull. The forehead is flat and the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">skull part is flat and long. Occiput is well defined but hardly visible,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">because of well developed muscles. Supraorbital ridges are<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">moderately defined.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop: Stop is moderately defined.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose: Large, well developed but not exceeding the general contour<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of the muzzle. Colour of the nose is black but in white and fawn<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">coloured dogs the nose can be lighter.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle: The muzzle is blunt and of moderate length, it is almost<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">rectangular viewed from above and sides and narrowing very<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">slightly towards the nose. Muzzle is voluminous, deep and well<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">filled under the eyes. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bridge of muzzle is broad, straight and sometimes with a slight<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">down face. Chin is well developed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips: Thick, upper lips tightly covering the lower lips when the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mouth is closed. Full black pigmentation is preferable.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws \/ Teeth: The jaws are strong and broad. Teeth are large, white<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and close to each other, 42 in total. Incisors are set on a line. Scissors<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">bite, pincer bite and also reversed scissors bite is accepted. Canines<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">are set well apart. An injury to the teeth that does not affect the use<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of the bite is of no consequence.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cheeks: The Cheekbones are long and well developed, without<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">interfering with the rectangular shape of head.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes: Medium sized, with oval form, set well apart, looking straight<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ahead, and moderately deep set. The colour of the eyes from dark<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">brown to hazel. The darker colour is preferable. The eyelids are thick<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and preferably with lower eye lid not too loose. No visible third<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">eyelid. Fully pigmented eyes rims are preferred. Whatever the colour<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of coat, eye rims should be black. Expression is confident and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dignified.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ears: Medium sized, triangular shape, thick, low set and hanging.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lower part of ear base is level with, or slightly below the eyes.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Traditional ear-cropping, in the fashion illustrated on the cover, is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">still practiced in country of origin and in countries where it is not<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">prohibited by law.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK<\/strong>: The neck is of medium length, very powerful, oval at crosssection, well muscled, and low set. Dewlap is a specific breed<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">feature.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Top line: Well proportioned and well sustained, and must keep<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">typical topline in stance.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Withers: Well defined, especially in males, muscular, long and high,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with well defined transition to the back.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Back: Straight, broad, well muscled, the actual length is about \u00bd of<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the length from the withers to tail set.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loin: Short, broad, muscled, slightly arched. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Croup: Moderately long, broad, well muscled, slightly sloping to tail<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">set. The height at the withers exceeds the height over rump by 1-2<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">cm.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chest: Deep, long, broad, distinctly developed, ribcage broadening<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">towards the back. False ribs are long. Lower part of the chest is level<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with the elbow or slightly below. Fore chest extends slightly in front<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of the humerus\/scapula joint.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Underline and belly: Belly is moderately tucked up.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong>: Thick at the base and set fairly high. The natural tail is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">carried in a sickle curve or curled in a loose ring that begins at the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">last third of the tail. When alert the tail rises to the line of back or<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">slightly above. Hanging at rest. Traditional tail docking, in the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">fashion illustrated on the cover, is still practiced in country of origin<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and in countries where it is not prohibited by law.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Natural tail is of equal value to a docked tail.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LIMBS<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Forelegs are straight with strong bone, seen<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">from the front parallel and not close together. Seen from the side, the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">forearms are straight.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shoulder: Shoulder blade long, well laid back, forming an angle with<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the upper arm about 100\u00b0. Well muscled.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper arm: Oblique, long, and strong.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elbow: Correctly fitting, turning neither in nor out.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forearm: Straight, very strong bone, long, oval cross-section.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metacarpus (Pastern): Moderate length, broad, strong, upright<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pasterns.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forefeet: Large, rounded, arching toes, pads are voluminous and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">thick; nails could be of any color.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Viewed from the rear straight and parallel, set a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">little wider than forequarters.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thigh: Broad, moderately long and strongly muscled. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stifle (Knee): Turning neither in nor out. The knee angulation is<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">moderate.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lower thigh: Of almost the same length as upper thigh.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hock joint: Moderate angle.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metatarsus (Rear pastern): Very strong of moderate length,<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">perpendicular. No dewclaws.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hind feet: Large, rounded, arching toes, pads are voluminous and<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">thick; nails could be of any color.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong>: Well balanced and elastic. Trot with free<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">reach in the forequarters and with powerful drive from the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">hindquarters. Top line is steady while moving. All joints to bend<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">without effort. The angulations in hindquarters is more distinct when<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">moving than in standing pose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SKIN<\/strong>: Thick, sufficiently elastic loose lying to prevent injuries if in<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">combat with predators.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>COAT<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hair: Abundant, straight coarse and with well developed undercoat.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hair on the head and on the front part of limbs is short and dense.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Coat on withers is often longer. The guard coat can be short or<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">slightly longer. Depending on the length of the outer coat there can<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">be either shorter hair (3-5 cm), covering the whole body or with<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">longer hair (7-10 cm) which forms a mane on the neck, feathers<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">behind the ears and on the back parts of the limbs and on the tail.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Colour: Any, except genetic blue and genetic brown in any<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">combination and black mantel on tan.<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">SIZE AND WEIGHT:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height at the withers: Males: Minimum 70 cms.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Females: Minimum 65 cms.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Large size desirable, but proportional constitution must remain. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Weight: Males: Minimum 50 kgs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Females: Minimum 40 kgs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">health and welfare of the dog.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Slight deviations from the breed type.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Female tending male type.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Rounded skull, narrow muzzle &amp; narrow lower jaw, small nose.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Eyes obliquely or close set, loose eyelids.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Ears high set.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Thin or loose hanging lips.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 High over the croup. Slightly short croup.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Narrow front.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Exaggerated angulations in hindquarters.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Splayed feet and long toes.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Hackney gait, slightly un-balanced movement.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Very short coat<\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">SEVERE FAULTS:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Highly #000000;\">\u2022 Natural stubbed tail, kinked tail.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Pasterns too high, down in pastern.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Hindquarters set too far under body.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Height at withers 2 cm less than stated minimum. <\/span><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">DISQUALIFYING FAULTS:<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy dogs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">shall be disqualified.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Timid, overexcited.<\/span><br
