In the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">cemetery chapel next to the village of Beram (Istrien) one can find in<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the fresco, dating from 1474, \u201cThe bow of the three Kings\u201d a dark<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">wheaten dog with dropped ears. This was the first portrayal of the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Posavatz Hound. The next portrayal is the altar fresco \u201cThe<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">motherhood of the Holy Virgin Mary\u201d from the 16th century in the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mother of the Angels Church in Veli Losinj, where the ancestor of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">today\u2019s Posavatz Hound is depicted. There is also a description of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">this hound in a manuscript from the year 1719 of the Dakovear<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bishop Petar Bakic, where it says, that the breeding of these hounds<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">was already well known in the 14th century. Franjo Bertic describes<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the Posavatz Hound in the year 1854. The FCI published the first<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Standard for the Posavatz Hound on April 8th 1955.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong>: Strong hound-body, medium sized<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">dog with balanced movements. The characteristic red-wheaten colour<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">comes in all shades. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The white markings are on head, neck, on the fore chest, the chest,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the belly, the lower limbs and at the tip of the tail. The difference<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">between the genders has to be distinctive.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rectangular body; length to exceed height at the withers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height to the elbow is 50% of the height at the withers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The length of skull to slightly exceed the length of muzzle.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR\/TEMPERAMENT<\/strong>: The breed is easy to train. This<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">is a universal hound with a clear and melodic voice for hunting in all<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">areas. Docile, neither nervous nor aggressive, reasonably lively<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">temperament. Very devoted to the owner.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>HEAD:<\/strong> The head is well proportioned to the body. The head has<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">slight divergent lines.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull: Slightly longer than the muzzle, it is broadest between the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ears. The temporal area is slightly rounded. The width of the skull<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">exceeds its depth. The occipital bone and the frontal furrow are<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">slightly pronounced.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop: Well developed but not too exaggerated.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose: Strong with well-opened nostrils. The whole nose and the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">inside of the nostrils have to be black or dark brown pigmented.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle: Strong, rectangular and full, slightly shorter than the skull,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">tapering from the stop towards the nose but not too pointed. The<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">nasal bridge is straight or slightly convex (slight ram\u2019s nose).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips: Average thickness, tight-fitting to the jaw, the labial<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">commissure is not visible. The liprims are completely pigmented in<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">correspondence with the colour of the nose leather.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws\/Teeth: The jaws are strong, regular and the teeth are white and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">evenly placed in the jaws. Scissors bite; the incisors are vertical<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">placed in the jaws. A complete bite is desired (42 teeth in accordance<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">with the dental formula). Missing premolars PM1 and molars M3 are<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">not taken into account. The missing of other teeth is undesirable. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cheeks: The chewing muscle and the cheekbone must not be too<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">accentuated.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eyes: Medium size, set moderately wide apart and semi frontal in an<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">angle of 10\u201315 degrees to the horizontal line. Oval shaped and dark<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">brown, the expression is intelligent. The eyelids must not be loose<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and show no signs of Entropion or Ectropion. The eyelids have to be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">fully pigmented in correspondence with the colour of the nose<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">leather.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ears: Dropped, close fitting to the head, set at eye level. The ear is<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">triangular shaped, rounded at the tips, moderately long and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">moderately thick. When drawn forward towards the nose they should<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">reach the labial commissure. The ears must not show any folds, nor<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">be rolled in or sticking out. They are covered with short hair.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK:<\/strong> Strong, well muscled and placed in an angle of 45 degrees to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the horizontal line. The neck tapers towards the head. The skin is<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">tight fitting without dewlap or heavily developed folds.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY<\/strong>: Body has to be strong.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Withers: Pronounced.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Back: Strong, well muscled, level.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loin: Medium length, broad, well muscled, solid and well attached<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">to the croup.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Croup: Well muscled, strong, broad and sloping in a 25\u201330 degree of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">angle towards the horizontal line. Slightly lower than the withers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chest: Deep, broad, but not too broad or barrelled. The ribcage has to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">reach to the elbow. Well sprung ribs.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Underline and belly: The belly shows a slight tuck up from the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">breastbone towards the flanks.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong>: Set as a continuation of the line of the croup. Strong at the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">root, gradually tapering towards the tip of the tail and of average<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">length. Stretched, it reaches, at the most to the hock. Sabre shaped<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">tail carried below the topline. Higher tail carriage tolerated when the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">dog is excited (in action). The tail is well covered with hair, slightly<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">longer on the underside, preferably like a little brush. <\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LIMBS<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Seen from the front the limbs have to be in good<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">proportion to the body and show even angulation.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shoulder: Of medium length, muscular. The shoulder angle is 115\u2013<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">120 degrees.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elbow: Close fitting to the chest.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forearm: The bone is strong and rounded with strong muscle tone.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Parallel seen from front.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Carpus ( Wrist): Short and elastic.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metacarpus (Pastern): Elastic, slightly sloping.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fore feet: Oval shaped with tight toes and strong pads. The nails<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">should preferably be pigmented.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Strong and elastic in action.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thigh: Strong, broad and well muscled.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lower thigh: Forms an angle of 40 degrees to the horizontal line.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hock joint: Strong and solid.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metatarsus (Rear pastern): Nearly vertical to the ground, solid and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">elastic.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hind feet: Oval shaped with tight toes and strong pads. The nails<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">should preferably be pigmented.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT\/MOVEMENT<\/strong>: The reach is substantial with a strong drive.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The movement has to be harmonious; there must be no twitching; the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">back has to be preferably steady and the limbs must not cross over.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SKIN<\/strong>: Elastic, of medium thickness, well fitting the body, no<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">wrinkles.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COAT<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hair: The hair is harsh, dense, shiny, close lying to the body. The<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">length is 2\u20133 cm. On the back of the limbs the hair is slightly longer<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">(up to 4 cm) also on the belly and on the underside of the tail, where<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">it forms preferably a \u201clittle brush\u201d. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Colour: The basic colour of the hair is reddish wheaten in all shades<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">with white markings on the head, the neck, the fore chest, the chest,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the belly, the underside of the limbs and the tip of the tail. Never a<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">dark brown or a chocolate brown colour which is not a permitted<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">colour. The total amount of white markings must not exceed one<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">third of the whole body. The white should be clear without any<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">mottling of the basic colour.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Characteristic white markings are placed:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the head, as a blaze or a stripe (no white on ears).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the neck, as a collar (complete or partial) or as a stripe.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the fore chest, a smaller or broader white part.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the belly, a white stripe.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the limbs, white parts on the feet, also as socks on<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the pasterns.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the tail, white tip of the tail.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is desirable that there are white markings on all mentioned parts of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the body and that they are symmetrically spread over the body.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Missing white markings on the mentioned parts of the body are seen<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">as a fault. White markings are not allowed on any other parts of the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">body.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SIZE<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height at the withers: Males: 50\u201356 cm.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Females: 47\u201353 cm.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height difference of +\/- 2 cm in males and females of excellent type<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and conformation will be tolerated.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong>: Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">upon the health and welfare of the dog and its ability to perform its<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">traditional work.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">DISQUALIFYING FAULTS:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy dogs.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Dogs, which clearly show physical or behavioural abnormalities,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">shall be disqualified. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Converging headlines.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Muzzle longer than the skull.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Untypically short muzzle.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Undershot or overshot, wry mouth.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Blue eyes.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Totally un-pigmented nose, eyelids or lip rims.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Body length shorter the height at the withers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Short legged, longish dog of achondroplasic type.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Tail carried in a ring or a laterally curved tail.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Coat on the body longer than 5 cm.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Completely solid coloured dog, lacking the white markings.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Traces of greyish or black colour on the body, sign of a third<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">colour.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 White markings which are mottled with the basic colour.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Height above or below the parameters designated in the standard.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">N.B.:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">descended into the scrotum.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed typical<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:
