In<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Southern parts of the area they used white, black and brown particoloured dogs as reindeer herders; in the northern parts the dogs<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">were pure white, had a mild temperament and were used as huntingand sledge dogs. The Samoyed dogs lived close to their owners, they<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">even slept within the shelters and were used as heaters. The British<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">zoologist Ernest Kilburn Scott spent three months among Samoyed<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tribes in 1889. Returning to England he brought with him a brown<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">male puppy called \u00ab Sabarka \u00bb. Later he imported a cream coloured<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">bitch called \u00ab Whitey Petchora \u00bb from the western side of the Urals<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and a snow white male called \u00ab Musti \u00bb from Siberia. These few<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">dogs and those brought by the explorers are the base for the western<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Samoyed. The first standard was written in England in 1909.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE:<\/strong> Medium in size, elegant, a white<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Arctic Spitz. In appearance gives the impression of power,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">endurance, charm, suppleness, dignity and self-confidence.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The expression, the so called \u00ab Samoyed Smile \u00bb, is made up of a<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">combination of eye shape and position, and the slightly curved up<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">corners of the mouth. The sex should be clearly stamped. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS:<\/strong> The length of the body is<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">approximately 5% more than the height at the withers. The depth of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the body is slightly less than the half of the height at the withers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The muzzle is approximately as long as the skull.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR AND TEMPERAMENT:<\/strong> Friendly, open, alert and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">lively. The hunting instinct is very slight. Never shy nor aggressive.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Very social and cannot be used as guard dog.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>HEAD:<\/strong> Powerful and wedge-shaped.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CRANIAL REGION:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Skull: viewed from the front and in profile only slightly convex.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Broadest between the ears. Slightly visible furrow between the eyes.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stop: Clearly defined but not too prominent.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FACIAL REGION:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nose: Well developed, preferably black. During some periods of the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">year the pigment of the nose can fade to a so called \u00ab winter nose \u00bb;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">there must however always be dark pigment at the edges of the nose.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Muzzle: Strong and deep, approximately as long as the skull,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">gradually tapering towards the nose, neither snipey nor heavy and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">square. The bridge of the nose is straight.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lips: Close fitting, black and rather full. The corners of the mouth<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">are slightly curved forming the characteristic \u00ab Samoyed Smile \u00bb.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jaws\/Teeth: Regular and complete scissor bite. The teeth and the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">jaws are strong. Normal dentition.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>EYES:<\/strong> Dark brown in colour, well-set in the sockets, placed rather<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">apart, somewhat slanting and almond-shaped. The expression is<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00ab smiling \u00bb, kind, alert and intelligent. The eyerims are black.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>EARS:<\/strong> Erect, rather small, thick, triangular and slightly rounded at<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the tips. They should be mobile, set high; due to the broad skull well<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">apart. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>NECK:<\/strong> Strong and of medium length with a proud carriage.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>BODY:<\/strong> Slightly longer than the height at the withers, deep and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">compact but supple.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Withers: Clearly defined.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Back: Of medium length, muscular and straight; in females slightly<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">longer than in males.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loin: Short, very strong and defined.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Croup: Full, strong, muscular and slightly sloping.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chest: Broad, deep and long, reaching almost to the elbows. The<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ribs are well sprung.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Underline: Moderate tuck-up.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong>: Set rather high. When the dog is alert and in motion the tail<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">is carried bent from the root forward over the back or side, but may<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">be hanging at rest, then reaching to the hocks.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LIMBS<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">FOREQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Well placed and muscular with strong bones.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Viewed from the front straight and parallel.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shoulder: Long, firm and sloping.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper arm: Oblique and close to the body. Approximately as long<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">as the shoulder.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elbow: Close to the body.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Carpus: Strong but supple.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metacarpus (Pastern): Slightly oblique.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fore Feet: Oval with long toes, flexible and pointing straight<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">forward. Toes arched and not too tightly knit. Elastics pads.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">HINDQUARTERS:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">General appearance: Viewed from behind straight and parallel with<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">very strong muscles.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upper thigh: Of medium length, rather broad and muscular.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stifle: Well angulated.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hocks: Rather low and well angulated. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Metatarsus: Short, strong, vertical and parallel.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hindfeet: As front feet. The dewclaws should be removed (except in<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">countries where it is forbidden by law).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>GAIT<\/strong>: Powerful, free and tireless in appearance with long stride.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Good reach in the forequarters and good driving power in the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">hindquarters.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">COAT<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hair: Profuse, thick, flexible and dense polar coat. The Samoyed is a<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">double coated dog with short, soft and dense undercoat and longer,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">more harsh and straight outer coat. The coat should form a ruff<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">around the neck and shoulders framing the head, especially in males.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">On head and on front of legs, hair is short and smooth; on outside of<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ears short, standing off and smooth. Inside the ears should be well<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">furred. On back of the thighs the hair forms trousers. There should<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">be a protective growth of hair between the toes. The tail should be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">profusely covered with hair. The coat of the female is often shorter<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and softer in texture than that of the male. The correct coat texture<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">should always have a special glistening sheen.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Colour: Pure white, cream or white with biscuit. (The basic colour to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">be white with a few biscuit markings.) Should never give the<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">impression of being pale brown.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SIZE<\/strong>:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Height at withers: Ideal height: male 57 cm with a tolerance of \u00b1 3<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">cm and females 53 cm with a tolerance of \u00b1 3 cm.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAULTS<\/strong>: Any departure from the foregoing points should be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Visible faults in structure.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Light bone.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Males not masculine and females not feminine. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Pincer bite.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Yellow eyes.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Soft ears.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Barrel ribcage.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Double twisted tail.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Low on the legs.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Badly bow-legged or cow hocked.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Wavy or short coated throughout, long, soft or coat hanging<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">down.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aloofness.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">SERIOUS FAULTS :<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Clearly unpigmented areas on eyerims or lips.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ELIMINATING FAULTS :<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy dogs.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">abnormalities.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Eyes blue or of different colours.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Overshot or undershot bite.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Ears not erect.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Coat colour other than permitted in the standard.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">N.B.:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">fully descended into the scrotum.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with
