About the ancient origin, however, among different <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">theories, the main accepted is, that the Jindo Dog is indigenous to <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Korea; the breed has been well preserved in this island due to the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">transportation difficulties in those days. In Korea, Korea Jindo Dogs<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">are called Jindo-kae or Jindo-kyon. Kae or Kyon are Korean words <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">for dog.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/strong> : The Korea Jindo Dog is a wellproportioned medium-sized dog used for hunting and guarding. With <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">erect ears and a rolled or sickle-shaped tail it should be a vivid <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">expression of agility, strength, alertness and dignity.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS<\/strong> : Ratio between height at withers : <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">length of body = 10 : 10,5.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>BEHAVIOUR \/ TEMPERAMENT<\/strong> : The Korea Jindo Dog has a <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">very strong instinct for hunting and is bold, brave, alert and careful, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">not tempted easily and impetuous. But most of all he is extremely <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">faithful to his master.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">On the whole he is not fond of other animals, especially males. He <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">also has a good sense of direction. A one-man dog, he readily <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">accepts a new master, but never forgets his attachment towards the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">former master who raised him from puppyhood. He keeps himself <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">clean and eats sparingly.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>HEAD<\/strong> : In general, the head forms a blunt triangle when viewed <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">from above and does not make the dog appear clumsy or coarse.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>CRANIAL REGION<\/strong> : The skull is of medium size in proportion to <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">the body. In case of white dog, flesh colour is permitted.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Muzzle : The muzzle should not be bulky nor turned upward.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Lips : Black, closing tightly, thin and not pendulous; upper lip <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">slightly covers the lower lip.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Teeth : Very strong; scissors bite.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Cheeks : Well developed, dry and moderately round when viewed <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">from side and front; narrowing to the end of the nose.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Eyes : Dark brown in colour, rather small in proportion to the size <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">of the head, almond in shape and very lively; the outer corner of <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">both eyes is slanted towards the ears.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Ears : Of medium size, triangular in shape, thick and perfectly erect; <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">ears, set neither high nor low, point slightly forward in line with the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">back of the neck. Inside of ears, a fine and dense texture of coat is <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">desirable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>NECK<\/strong> : Rather well-balanced and thick without dewlap, well<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">muscled and strong. The Korea Jindo Dog carries his neck proudly<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">and well arched when excited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">BODY<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Back : Strong and straight.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Loin : Well muscled, taut, lean and narrower than the rib cage.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Chest : Strong and moderately deep, but not too broad. The deepest <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">point of chest reaches just above the elbow, but same level with the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">elbow is also acceptable. Ribs well sprung. Brisket well developed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Belly : Drawn up.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>TAIL<\/strong> : When let down, the tip of the tail should reach the hock. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Root rather set high, stands straight firmly and should not sway when <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">the dog moves. Sickle shaped or rolled, the end of the tail touching <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">the back or the flank. Should not be too curled. Pads thick and wellcushioned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>HINDQUARTERS<\/strong> :<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">General appearance : When viewed from side, the hindlegs are <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">moderately angulated; when viewed from the rear, hindlegs stand <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">straight, parallel and neither too wide nor too close. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dewclaws should be removed except in countries where their <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">removal is forbidden by law.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Upper thighs : Well-developed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Stifle : Moderately angulated.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Hocks : Well let down, not straight, moderately angulated.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Hind feet : Identical with forefeet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>GAIT \/ MOVEMENT<\/strong> : The gait of Korea Jindo Dog is powerful <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">and steady. The back should remain firm and level. He trots <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">carrying his head high, but when speed increases, the head is carried <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">rather low, almost at the level of the shoulders. The upper part of the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">tail moves slightly according to the change of direction of the dog.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">COAT<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>HAIR<\/strong> : The Korea Jindo Dog has a double coat. Undercoat is soft, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">dense, light in colour, but sufficient to support the outercoat. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Outercoat is stiff and stands somewhat off body. Comparing with the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">hair of the body, the hair on head, legs and ears is shorter and the hair <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">on the neck, withers, back and rump is longer. The hair on tail and <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">back of thighs is longer than on the rest of the body.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>COLOUR<\/strong> : The colours of the Korea Jindo Dog are red fawn, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">white, black, black and tan, wolf grey and brindle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica,
