GENERAL APPEARANCE :<\/strong> The Staffordshire Terrier should give\u00a0<\/span>the impression of great strength for his size; a well put together dog,\u00a0<\/span>muscular, but agile and graceful, keenly alive to his surroundings. He\u00a0<\/span>should be stocky, not long-legged or racy in outline. His courage is\u00a0<\/span>proverbial.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

HEAD :<\/strong> Medium length, deep through.<\/span>
CRANIAL REGION :<\/span><\/strong>
Skull :<\/strong> broad.<\/span>
Stop :<\/strong> Distinct.<\/span>
FACIAL REGION :<\/span><\/strong>
Nose :<\/strong> Definitely black.<\/span>
Muzzle :<\/strong> Medium length, rounded on upper side to fall away\u00a0<\/span>abruptly below the eyes.<\/span>
Lips :<\/strong> Close and even ; no looseness.<\/span>
Jaws\/Teeth :<\/strong> Well defined. Under jaw strong and to have biting\u00a0<\/span>power. Upper teeth to meet tightly outside lower teeth in front.<\/span>
Cheeks :<\/strong> Very pronounced cheek muscles.<\/span>
Eyes :<\/strong> Dark, round, low down in skull, set far apart. No pink eyelids.<\/span>
Ears :<\/strong> Set high. Cropped or uncropped, the latter preferred.\u00a0<\/span>Uncropped ears should be short and held rose or half prick. Full\u00a0<\/span>drop to be penalized.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

NECK :<\/strong> Heavy, slightly arched, tapering from shoulders to back of\u00a0<\/span>skull. No looseness of skin. Medium length.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

BODY :<\/span><\/strong>
Topline :<\/strong> Back fairly short. Slight sloping from withers to rump with\u00a0<\/span>gentle short slope at rump to base of tail.<\/span>
Loins :<\/strong> Slightly tucked.<\/span>
Chest :<\/strong> Deep and broad. Well sprung ribs; close together, deep in\u00a0<\/span>rear.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

TAIL :<\/strong> Short in comparison to size, low set, tapering to fine point;\u00a0<\/span>not curled or carried over back. Not docked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

LIMBS :<\/span><\/strong>
FOREQUARTERS :<\/strong> Front legs straight, with large bones. Set rather\u00a0<\/span>wide apart to permit chest development.<\/span>
Shoulders :<\/strong> Strong and muscular, with blades wide and sloping.<\/span>
Pastern :<\/strong> Upright.<\/span>
HINDQUARTERS :<\/strong> Well muscled.<\/span>
Hocks :<\/strong> Let down, turning neither in nor out.<\/span>
FEET :<\/strong> Of moderate size, well arched and compact.<\/span><\/p>\n

GAIT \/ MOVEMENT :<\/strong> Springy but without roll or pace.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

COAT<\/span><\/strong>
HAIR :<\/strong> Short, close, stiff to the touch, glossy.<\/span>
COLOUR :<\/strong> Any colour, solid, particolour, or patched is permissible;\u00a0<\/span>but more than 80% white, black and tan, and liver not to be\u00a0<\/span>encouraged.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

SIZE :<\/strong> Height and weight should be in proportion. A height of about\u00a0<\/span>eighteen to nineteen inches (46 – 48 cm) at the shoulder for the male\u00a0<\/span>and seventeen to eighteen inches (43 – 46 cm) for the female to be\u00a0<\/span>considered preferable.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

FAULTS :<\/strong> Any departure from the foregoing points should be\u00a0<\/span>considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be\u00a0<\/span>regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect\u00a0<\/span>upon the health and welfare of the dog.<\/span>
\u2022 Dudley nose.<\/span>
\u2022 Undershot or overshot mouth.<\/span>
\u2022 Light eyes.<\/span>
\u2022 Pink eyelids.<\/span>
\u2022 Tail too long or badly carried.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

DISQUALIFYING FAULTS<\/span><\/strong>
\u2022 Aggressive or overly shy dogs.<\/span>
\u2022 Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities\u00a0<\/span>shall be disqualified.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

N.B:<\/span><\/strong>
\u2022 Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully\u00a0<\/span>descended into the scrotum.<\/span>
\u2022 Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed typical\u00a0<\/span>conformation, should be used for breeding.<\/span><\/p>\n
