Its origin goes back to Roman<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">times. These dogs were kept as herder or driving dogs. They marched over the Alps with<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> the Roman legions, protecting the humans and driving their cattle. In the region <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of Rottweil, these dogs met and mixed with the native dogs in a natural crossing.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The main task of the Rottweiler now became the driving and guarding of<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> the herds of cattle and the defence of their masters and their property. This breed<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">acquired its name from the old free city of Rottweil and was known as<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the \u00ab Rottweil butcher\u2019s dog\u2019 \u00bb. The butchers bred this type of dog<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">purely for performance and usefulness. In due course, a first rate<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">watch and driving dog evolved which could also be used as a draught<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dog. When, at the beginning of the twentieth century, various breeds<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">were needed for police service, the Rottweiler was amongst those<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">tested. It soon became evident that the breed was highly suitable for<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the tasks set by police service and therefore theywere officially<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">recognized as police dogs in 1910.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"canvasWrapper\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a companion, service and working dog.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">GENERAL APPEARANCE<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">: The Rottweiler is a medium to large<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">size, stalwart dog, neither heavy nor light and neither leggy nor<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">weedy.
